First Bodyboard National Circuit

Within the Finals of the National Surf Circuit, a group of bodyboarders undertook the task of organizing the first Bodyboard National Circuit, in order to close a gap that has been neglected and relegated in Costa Rica.

The event took place last Sunday, April 27th in front of the Hotel Terrazas del Pacífico, in Playa Hermosa. About 70 participants competed in the different categories (Open, Women, Junior, Male Rookie, Female Rookie, and Dropknee), surfed solid five-foot waves and showed quiet radicalism and professionalism.

More than $1000 and new bodyboards were shared by the first four places.

Lorena Vera, Dineth Arce, Cindy Díaz, Jimena Calvo, and Walter Gatllet were part of the organizing staff. Together with the Surf Federation, they could hold this event.

The winner in the Open Category was Reinier Montenegro; Cindy Díaz took the 1st place in the Women Category. Richard Marín was the most outstanding Junior. Ronald Berger came 1st in the Dropknee Category and Vanessa Jenkins and Tony Cruz were the best Rookies of the date.

José Ureña, President of the Costa Rican Surf Federation told The Jacó News that what made a difference in the 2007-2008 National Surf Circuit was the increment on the number of surfers and the support given by the sponsors. Those aspects strengthen the event and make it the most important in the national surf scene. The Federation is now preparing the Junior Team for the next Junior World Championship to be take place in France.
