Last April 26th, the Association of Residents of Playa Hermosa celebrated its first year of its foundation. The Association was formed with the objective of getting the community and the businesses together in order to improve safety, environment, education, and sports-related issues.

The Association has already been able to achieve some of its goals, such as the grant of the “Organized Neighborhood” Certificate. According to Esteban Mora, President of the Association, the number of car thefts has decreased by a 70%.

It is also part of the Blue Flag committee, and active participant in the conservation of Playa Hermosa-Puntamala Wildlife Refuge. The Association has adopted a recycling program that is lead by John O´toole, a member of the community, and gotten involved in the request for deferring the construction of an over-10-story, 3-tower condominium that is planned for constructions over a wetland and in front of the beach.
